The 1997 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded half to Paul D. Boyer and John E. Walker "for clarifying the enzyme mechanism based on the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)" and the other half for Jens C. Skou "for the first discovery of enzyme that transports ions, Na +, K + -ATPase."
